Existe uma conexão iniludível entre as deslocalizações induzidas pela globalização, o desemprego e as consequências que são resultado de guerras. Daí que um dos maiores desafios é construir alianças que sejam ao mesmo tempo locais e globais, e que não só combatam as injustiças como ainda possam apresentar uma alternativa.
A Internacional dos Resistentes à Guerra em parceria com organizações indianas está a realizar uma Conferência Internacional que estude os vínculos entre as lutas locais não-violentas pela sobrevivência e o militarismo global, inclusive aqueles que mais lucram com a guerra.
Nesta conferência participam activistas de todo o mundo que analisam o papel dos Estados e das empresas multinacionais na privação das comunidades locais das suas fontes de sobrevivência, assim como pretendem aprender a partir das experiências de resistência não-violenta nos seus diversos níveis – do nível comunitário ao global, e nas suas várias fases, desde a prevenção da deslocalização à planificação do regresso.
A Internacional dos Resistentes à Guerra (War Resisters' International) foi fundada em 1921 e na sua declaração pode-se ler:
A Guerra é um crime contra a humanidade. Além disso, estamos determinados a rejeitar qualquer género de guerra, como a eliminar todas as causas de uma guerra.
A War Resisters' International existe para promover acções não-violentas contras essas causas e a apoiar e unir todos os que no mundo se recusam a tomar parte quer nas guerras quer nos seus preparativos. Ou seja, a WRI luta por um mundo sem guerra.
A WRI tem 40 organizações filiadas em mais de 80 países, se bem que a sua sede em Londres está organizada fundamentalmente na base de dois programas:
- o Direito à recusa em matar, vocacionado para os objectores de consciência, desertores e refractários
- a Não-Violência, que visa produzir recursos para a acção não-violenta, sendo ainda responsável por um boletim.
